Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) is one of the leading medical institutions of India. It was established on 1st of January, 1823 as "Ecole de Médicine de Pondichéry" as a medical school by the French imperial government in India to train French citizens.
